Poker Road Trip Reports

Ladbrokes Poker Cruise By Stefan Ball (February 2006)
The structure was excellent. We started with 10,000 chips, 60 minute levels and a slow build up of blinds - 25/50, then 50/100, 75/150, 100/200, 100/200 + 25 antes, 150/300 + 25 etc. In a fabulously cheesy presentation the night before, compered by Jesse May in white Essex-girl shoes, the tournament director promised that blinds would be lowered or frozen in the later stages to ensure plenty of play right through to the final table. British Poker Open Report By Mel Lofthouse (April 2005)

Having spent £12 to qualify for a token to the final of the GetMinted/Virgin Games satellite for the British Poker Open, I was well chuffed with myself when I qualified and won the satellite outright. About two weeks before the event I found out that the Devilfish, Gus Hanson and Roy 'the Boy' Brindley were going to be in my heat. The table from hell! Yet a great experience. (read more.......)

Las Vegas Road Trip By Russell 'Rusty' Springate (February 2005)

I was getting very excited as this was my first trip to Vegas and despite having a raging cold I could not wait to get there and hit the poker tables. After a 20 hour flight via Dallas on a very dodgy looking plane we finally arrived at the Orleans Hotel and Casino, which is situated just off the main strip. The hotel was really nice with a nice size poker room offering lots of limits and games (read more.......)

Deauville EPT, Main Event By Mel Lofthouse (February 2005)

Devilfish then goads me for a few minutes saying 'why didn't you bet it'. I said well when the straight is there, and possible flush, and all you have is trips what would you do? He shut up for a minute! I'm now up to about 18,000 chips within 4 minutes and looking good. I accumulate a bit more and end up taking out a player with AA v his 99 and am now up to about 28,000 just before the dinner break. (read more.......)

Brighton Jet Set Festival By Stefan Ball (January 2005)
I'm an online player. Apart from my Slough Palace appearances over the last year - twice a month on average, maybe - my only other live tournament was the 2004 WSOP. I won that seat in a Pokerstars freeroll, and got there playing very aggressively and (by the time it finished at 3am) more than three parts pissed. (read more.......)

Vegas Magic By Tim Ryerson (January 2005)
It's Monday morning and I'm all packed and ready for the long journey to Vegas. We get to Heathrow with plenty of time to spare but end up making a run for the plane and are the last people onboard. There are five of us on the plane, Andy , Chocs, James, Vikas, and me. Our other friend Dave is getting a later flight since he booked separately to us. (read more.......)

Southampton £400 Freezeout By Mel Lofthouse (November 2004)
What a day the Slough Palace trio had! Matt drove David and I down to Southampton and we got there with plenty of time to relax before the tournament started. After we'd registered and took seats, I found that I had been drawn on the Axxemans table so I could have a good chat. Great table to start with, 3 complete rocks and 5 loose cannons (read more.......)

Victoria £750 Event By Keith Walls (November 2004)
Ok, I'm small fry and I know it. Heck, bringing the £25 for the monthly freezeout at my local game in Slough normally means taking a hammer to the piggybank or a rifle round the sofa cushions. But it does help to teach me to only play top starting hands, play them aggressively and more importantly play them well! I can handle chips, I’ve won the £5 rebuy at the Slough ‘Palace’, I can read a player, make a bluff and lay down when I have to it – nothing to it. I keep telling myself -just do what you know you can do, play your normal game…. (read more.......)

The Las Vegas Diary By Cameron Angus (November 2004)
Cameron 'Round the Mountain' Angus, a recent winner at the Gutshot poker festival, left his home in Kentish Town in late October to try his luck in Las Vegas, the capital of poker. The plan was to see how long his bankroll would last. It's December now and he's still there doing well as expected. Cameron has generously shared his experience with all of us. (read Cameron's report.......)

Eugene and Mel do Vegas! By Eugene Cummins
We both arrived in Vegas after the very long flight via LA where we had a three hour stop off. Giving us time to try the American McDonalds! We arrived in Vegas in good spirits although very tired but still managed to stay up till about 10am playing Black Jack, as it's the first time we have won playing this! Anyway by 10am we were zombies but it was the free drinks and the buzz which had kept us going till then. (read more.......)
