Quiz Answers
- 1. Hand B is the winner, as a flush always beat a straight (hand A).
- 2. The correct answer is (b) $300. The main pot will contain $1,300. Player 7 can only win the main pot and not the side pot. The other players can win both.
- 3. The correct answer is (a) Freeroll. A rebuy tournament allows you to buy-in again if you lose chips and doesn’t usually have a free entry. A satellite tournament is one that offers a potentially cheap way of gaining entry into high buy-in tournaments, and they usually have a low buy-in amount – but not usually free.
- 4. The correct answers are; Runner-Runner = d, Sandbag = e, Under the Gun = b, Double Belly Buster = c, Calling Station = a.
- 5. The five cards you should have chosen were 789TJ, giving a Jack high straight.
- 6. It’s true you do have the nuts, a flush (AKJ95). Remember that the best possible hand with this board is a flush, and since the Ace is on the board, you know that with the King in your hand you have the best possible hand. If there was no Ace on the board then you wouldn’t have the nuts.
- 7. The correct answer is (d) loose aggressive player.
- 8. It’s (b) 24%, since you have 12 outs (9 spades and 3 Aces), and 12 x 2 = 24.
- 9. It’s false. Being able to act last in a hand allows you to see how everyone else is going to act before making your decision. This is a very powerful concept.
- 10. It’s true. You only have the odds to call because the other player is all-in and you’re guaranteed to see both the turn and river with no further betting. The pot is offering you 3-to-1 (1,200 / 400) or costing 25% (400 / 16,000). If you could only see one card then the odds of hitting would be 4.75-to-1 or 17.4%, and it would be incorrect to call. However since the odds of hitting are 2.17-to-1 or 31.5% when combing both the turn and river, you just have the correct odds to call.
