Omaha Hi/Low or Eight-or-Better

Omaha Hi/low is a split pot game. That is to say you can win with either the best high or the best low hand (the wheel).

The Wheel - The best possible low hand A 2 3 4 5

A player can win the high hand or the low hand or both. This is known as scooping the pot.

The rules of Omaha Hi/Low:

You MUST use 2 cards from you hand, like you would with Omaha High only.

  1. A low hand must consist of cards with a value of less than 8.
  2. Straights and flushes are ignored in the low hand.
  3. You can use different combinations of cards for the High and Low.
  4. The best low hand is determined by taking the highest card in the low and working down to the lowest.

Good High / Low Starting Hands:

The best starting hand in High/low is A A 2 3 double suited. Then we have A A 2 3 with one suit and AA23 with no suits.

Other good starting hands are as follows A 2 3 4 and A 2 4 5.

Tips:

  • Playing good starting hands like above.
  • Be prepared to fold on the flop.
  • Fold middle straight cards.
  • Play hands that could scoop the pot that is to say win the high and the low.
