Omaha Hi/Low or Eight-or-Better
Omaha Hi/low is a split pot game. That is to say you can win with either the best high or the best low hand (the wheel).
The Wheel - The best possible low hand A 2 3 4 5
A player can win the high hand or the low hand or both. This is known as scooping the pot.
The rules of Omaha Hi/Low:
You MUST use 2 cards from you hand, like you would with Omaha High only.
- A low hand must consist of cards with a value of less than 8.
- Straights and flushes are ignored in the low hand.
- You can use different combinations of cards for the High and Low.
- The best low hand is determined by taking the highest card in the low and working down to the lowest.
Good High / Low Starting Hands:
The best starting hand in High/low is A A 2 3 double suited. Then we have A A 2 3 with one suit and AA23 with no suits.
Other good starting hands are as follows A 2 3 4 and A 2 4 5.
Tips:
- Playing good starting hands like above.
- Be prepared to fold on the flop.
- Fold middle straight cards.
- Play hands that could scoop the pot that is to say win the high and the low.
