Default The Worst Bad Beat of All Time!

This is the bad beat story to end them all.

My local casino runs a bad beat jackpot for the cash games, it's up to $290,000 right now. I myself just missed hitting it a few weeks ago. Last week we had the following hand occur:

One player held , another held . The queens raised preflop and the suited connectors called.

    Unbelievably, here was the flop:

. The flopped straight flush checked, and the set of queens bet. The SF called. The turn:

for quad queens being beat by a straight flush.

A raising war ensued in which both players were all in before the river. Of course, when the hands were turned over, they were ecstatic to discover they had hit the massive bad beat jackpot.

Needless to say, the two players, as well as the table, were overjoyed. One even burst into tears.

Here are the rules for a qualifying bad beat--

    1. The qualifying hands are: Aces over Kings or better must be beaten. Check.
    2. At least five players must have been dealt into the hand. Check.
    3. The pot must contain at least $25 by the river. Check.
    4. Both players' 2 hole cards must play (be part of forming the five-card poker hand). Check.

Every point of qualification had been met.

And the heinous river card was:

    the .

In all the screaming and excitement, no one noticed that the river card had counterfeited the bad beat-- because it formed the new top of the straight flush, removing the low card from the SF player's hand and therefore nullifying the jackpot.

Just imagine that for a moment.

If the point of a bad beat jackpot is to reward the loser of a huge hand with a massive consolation prize, then this atrocious river card should have been the absolute worst bad beat of all time! These players should have received a double jackpot, if you ask me.

    They got nothing.

    Wow!

Whoa. That surely tops the bill as the worst bad beat I've ever heard. A single card in the deck to lose the jackpot. Ouch.

Out of interest, how big a pot did Mr straight flush win?

There is truly only one word to describe this fiasco ... Oy.

Hey, Wow, wow, wow ... I think it's TIME for you to retire your Quesotar. That hollow victory is old news. Apparently you are still afraid to play heads up Hi-Lo Omaha!

It's staying for now because I know it winds you up. But it also motivates you to improve your pool skills so I might need to concentrate next time!
