I haven't played that many rebuy tournaments before. The ones I have played I did well on my return. I did feel as though I wasn't making the proper decisions on rebuys/addons. Here is the question...
How many rebuys/addons do you allow for yourself? Also what are you calculating into the decision (bankroll, how you are running.......)? I am looking to get more involved in rebuys pretty soon. Thanks for the advice.... Last edited by malfunctioning; Jan 28th, 2010 at 05:41 AM. |

The only rebuys I usually play online are for satelittes, such as the WSOP. The last one I played was a $30 rebuy, and for these I'd try limit it to one rebuy, and an add-on - otherwise it can get expensive. For the cheaper rebuys I might have a few more, but I think it's best to set a limit beforehand.
What rebuys are you looking to play? Have you looked at previous games to see the average? |

IMO you can't limit yourself to a set number of rebuys/addons. To take full advantage of them you can't play these by being worried about how much you might spend.
BR wise I'd estimate about 7 times the buy-in amount. That would leave one for the actual buy-in, one for the immediate rebuy for the double stack, one (sometimes two) for any add-on at the end of the rebuy period, and three-four needed rebuys that I might have to make. Depending on your style you might need a few more or maybe one or two less but I feel this is pretty safe. I don't play many rebuys but the one I'll play most is the $2.20 turbo rebuy on FTP that runs at 2:35pm and 7:35pm EST each day. Its not uncommon for me to only spend $6.20 total as I don't play rebuys much differently than a freezeout. I have spend as much as $18.20 in this thing. Sometimes things just don't go your way. :) As I said I don't play them much differently but I will be a little more liberal with draws and I am more willing to get my chips in the middle on the flop with a strong but vulnerable hand.

The ones I've played before were all $1 and $2 buyins. Out of the 6 that I have played I cleared a profit on 4. One was a win in the daily dollar rebuy at tilt for a very nice profit. I do not have a stable base to get an average off of. 2 of them I went what I would consider nuts in, $12 & $14 invested into a $1 rebuy/addon. The others ranged from just the initial buy/addon and addon at break to 3 rebuy/addons. |

The ones I have played are teh same for me. I am curious when deciding to rebuy or not to... do you include the looseness of the table?

ALWAYS rebuy. If you don't, why play it? Join a freezeout instead. Maximize your chances and take the chips they offer you. You'll see plenty of other players that just buy-in and either single rebuy when they bust or even decline to rebuy at all. Those players are dead money.
Think of not rebuying and adding on as forgetting to top off your stack at a cash table. If that big hand comes up and you are only a fraction of the max buy-in at the table, you potentially lose out on a larger pot.

I agree that you should take your chances with big draws, and other spots where you stand a good chance of scooping a nice pot. But remember that your rebuys cut into your potential profits. Some people go mad with rebuys, and this is fine because they're building the prize pool - and not necessarily increasing their own chances.

Trust me, I am one of the tighter players in any game, especially a rebuy. However, some people will take the risk of a few extra rebuys at a better chance of accumulating a large stack, which can be wielded effectively after the rebuy period is over.
Now I'm not going to ignore pot odds but I'm sure I'll shove my entire stack in the middle with even 12 potential outs... especially when the other guy might be doing the same thing with a worse hand. And I'll be playing my standard freezeout strategy post-rebuy, just that most people will be a bit deeper-stacked than normal. But I don't mind risking the chance that I might need to spend an extra $4 in order to increase my chance at $300+ of profit. Losing the small profit of a min-cash isn't as much of a concern to me.

I have been doing a little reading on this the last week. I see a lot of folks that all seem to have a set amount of rebuy/addons that they allow themselves. Which was making me question the way I had run them before. I have been more in the state of mind of just go with the flow.
Thanks for backing up what I had already thought (but wasn't sure). |
